Postoperative radiochemotherapy for gastric adenocarcinoma: long term results
نویسندگان
چکیده
In Slovenia as well as worldwide, gastric carcinoma is considered as a disease with poor prognosis. Radical surgery which can be performed in only 50-70% of patients1,2 is a common treatment for localized disease. Long-term outcomes with surgery alone are still relatively poor because disease recurrence was observed in 75% of patients, and in 40-65% of them, the disease recurred Received 21 August 2009 Accepted 28 August 2009 Correspondence to: Assist. Capecitabine in adjuvant radiochemotherapy for gastric adenocarcinoma
BACKGROUND In patients with non-metastatic gastric cancer surgery still remains the treatment of choice. Postoperative radiochemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin significantly improves the treatment outcome. The oral fluoropyrimidines, such as capecitabine, mimic continuous 5-fluorouracil infusion, are at least as effective as 5-fluorouracil, and such treatment is more comfortable for...
متن کاملSubtotal gastrectomy with conventional D2 lymphadenectomy for carcinoma of the distal gastric portion: A retrospective cohort study on clinical outcomes.
BACKGROUND The study was aimed to delineate the postoperative morbidity, mortality and long-term follow-up results after R0 subtotal gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy for invasive non-disseminated adenocarcinoma of the distal gastric portion. METHODS Between January 2005 and December 2007, 228 patients with median age at hospitalisation 66.6 ± 11.4 years underwent the above mentioned surger...
متن کاملIN TRAOPERATIVE RADIATION THERAPY FOR GASTRIC ADENOCARCINOMA
Intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) is a multidisciplinary approach in which residual tumors or tumor beds are directly irradiated during a surgical procedure. To evaluate its efficacy, from 1985, we conducted a prospective study including non-metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma treated by surgery, IORT (15 Grays) and postoperative external beam radiotherapy (44 Grays). Up to 1993, 51 ca...
متن کاملCan the addition of radiotherapy postoperatively increase clinical outcome of patients with gastric cancer? A systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis
Background Although several studies have been carried out to determine the best treatment for gastric carcinoma, the data on survival rate still remain inconclusive. Objective To evaluate the effects of postoperative radio-chemotherapy on overall and disease-free survival. Data Sources MEDLINE and CANCERLIT searches of reference lists (for the period 1970 to 2016) were supplemented with han...

Background: Although postoperative chemoradiotherapy should be considered for all patients at high risk for recurrence of adenocarcinoma of the stomach, curative surgery occurs in less than 50% of nonmetastatic gastric cancers. A regimen of docetaxel, cisplatin and infusional fluorouracil improves survival of patients with incurable locally-advanced gastric adenocarcinoma. So we assessed the pe...
